Arbitrarily FCT Lands Allocation By FCT Minister: Wike should immediately be sacked and prosecuted

The Network Against Corruption and Trafficking (NACAT), Nigeria’s foremost non-profit anti-corruption and trafficking organisation, whose mandate includes but is not limited to the promotion of transparency and accountability of government, corporate bodies, and individuals through media advocacy, fieldwork, and legal action, is strongly calling for the sack of the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike over his brazen shenanigan being carried out with impunity in an open reckless abuse of office and primitive diversion and accumulation of public assets.

The FCT Minister has overstepped his boundaries, and as such, we call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sack him now with immediate effect, and that the anti-corruption agencies, the EFCC, ICPC, and others should arrest and begin a probe of Mr. Wike.

As published in the media, especially since Peoples Gazette has been running it as series of stories, Nyesom Wike has gone berserk, allocating prime Abuja lands to his Children, 90-year-old father, brothers, sisters, cousins, nephews, and other cronies with impunity.

We are aghast and worried that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, until now, has yet to call Mr. Wike to order, either by suspending him over abuse of office or abruptly sacking him, but to our disappointment, Wike has continued to remain in office, carrying out a brazen and reckless abuse of office. It is either Mr Wike has the nudes picture of the President or they share something sacred for him to have overlooked this brazen sharing of Abuja lands to self and family.

It is on record that no past FCT Minister has recklessly abused office and primitively diverted and accumulated public assets like Mr. Wike, the current Minister, is doing, name it from Chief Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun who served as Commissioner in 1976 to Haliru Dantoro who was the FCT Minister from 1976 to 1983, Mamman Jiya Vatsa, from 1976 to 1984, down to Hamza Abdullahi who was FCT Minister from 1984 to 1986, to Gado Nasko the FCT Minister from 1986 to 1993, to Jeremiah Useni the FCT Minister from 1993 to 1998, to Mamman Kontagora as Minister from 1998 to 1999, Ibrahim Bunu, as Minister from 1999 to 2001 up to Mohammed Abba Gana who served as FCT Minister from 2001 to 2003 to Nasir el-Rufai as Minister from 2003 to 2007 to Aliyu Modibbo Umar the Minister from 2007 to 2008, Adamu Aliero Minister from 2008 to 2010, Bala Mohammed serving as Minister from 2010 to 2015 and Mohammed Musa Bello who was the Minister from 2015 to 2023.

With the list of past FCT ministers above, none has been so high-handed, avaricious like Nyesom Wike, especially as it relates to the brazen allocation of lands by the Minister to his families, cronies, and friends, even as he gets away with his level of impunity. What this means is that the Minister is untouchable and is not even afraid of the President who appointed him as Minister. With this, it is either that there is something Wike holds strongly against Mr. President, that he is having his way in all things, or there is a pact in which the duo has together.

NACAT, just like we have always done before, as the pacesetter when it comes to anti-corruption, Trafficking in persons, and drug abuse fight, we won’t fold our hands and watch Mr. Wike continue his sordid acts.

Therefore, we call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately sack Mr. Nyesom Wike as FCT Minister, while we call on the anti-graft agencies, the EFCC and ICPC to arrest him and begin a probe.

Stella Oduah was removed from office by President Goodluck Jonathan for buying a BMW of less than N300 million. What then is the excuse by Tinubu not to remove Wike who has embarrassed the country with the looting of over N300 billion in lands.

Failure to do this, we will stage a continuous protest at the National Assembly and FCT Ministry until Mr. Wike is removed from office and prosecuted. We have had it up to our throats as citizens of Nigeria and can no longer tolerate further destruction of Abuja and Nigeria.

Enough is Enough.
